Dopefish's HM Hydra Farm
Ok i've seen lots of peoples having great ideas and builds against the "solo-nerf" and so i decided to make a little contribution to the new age of farming
Skills & Attributes:
Weapons and Armor:
Any max armor will work but +10 vs elemental is the best (haven't tested it yet ).
As weapons i recommand:
sword: (any dmg mod)
zealous
+5 AC/+7 AC vs elemental
Approach:
Cast armor of Earth and lure a Group of Hydras (never more than 3-4 at once).
Spam your ripostes and SoH and keep one stance up all the time.
There are plenty of chests on your way.
This happens if you lure 2 Groups by accident
The Loot:
This is what i've found:
~4-5k in 20-30 mins
ps: i'm working on a mesmer build

well you're sure that you're doing them in hm? ^^
because they should run away form SoJ if they're 7.
That could explain your bad luck of dropps.
well maybe i just had big luck on the run xD

What could be switched in to replace Flail Stance and Gladiator's Defense?
I have a similarly-equipped W/E, but I only have Prophecies and I haven't had a chance to cap GD.

I just ran out and 55'd them with both my monk and my necro.. .they won't scatter from just SoJ, but they will if you have zealot's fire going and SoJ on at the same time.
here's what i carry
as with any 55 set-up you'll need 5 superior runes on the armor - so figure all class attributes are +3 from the runes
necro
soul reaping 11
curses 16
healing 8
protection prayers 7
[skill]awaken the blood[/skill][skill]spiteful spirit[/skill][skill]reckless haste[/skill][skill]protective spirit[/skill][skill]healing breeze[/skill][skill]mending[/skill][skill]balthazar's spirit[/skill][skill]essence bond[/skill]
set you maintained enchants and head off. throw your awaken blood before you agro, then hit protective spirit when you first agro and wait for them to finish with their ranged spells.. pick one and hit him with SS and then reckless haste. keep up protective spirit and breeze - and watch them suicide on you.
takeing on more then 3 is trickey - you may want to replace awaken the blood, with the watchfull spirit seen in the monk build for an extra couple of pips of health regen... awaken the blood only increases SS's dmg by 5 (but with reckless haste it does add up.)
\
i'm sure my 55 monk build isn't much of a suprise to anyone, but just in case
healing prayers 11
smiteing prayers 16
protection prayers 5
devine favor 13
[skill]mending[/skill][skill]watchful spirit[/skill][skill]balthazar's spirit[/skill][skill]essence bond[/skill][skill]protective spirit[/skill][skill]shield of judgment[/skill][skill]zealot's fire[/skill][skill]healing breeze[/skill]
pretty much like above, put up your 4 maintained enchants - it's wise to wait to put the last one on untill you have regened enough energy to use protective spirit as you won't get energy untill after you start takeing a pounding.
use sheild of judgement and keep protect spirit and breeze going - if their still standing when sheild ends, throw zealot's fire and then keep switching between spirit and breeze untill they all fall down.
with watchful spirit's extra 2 pips of health, you can take on more then 3, but sometimes after a fight you have no enegy , drop watchful spirit to get a pip of E-recharge again.
<edit> with both builds you have to watch out for their knock downs, don't wait until prot. spirit is almost finished before you try to replace it - if they knock you down while trying you're toast. if you start when it's about halfway over you have a chance to get it up if they interupt it.

Hydras won't run away, becouse they are mainly ranged monsters, just come closer to use Phoenix. Easy to farm.

Nope, they're melee. Glads defense, riposte, deadly riposte can kill them. So they're melee. They only stay away while casting Fireball and Meteor.
Also, I farm them with a 55monk, as you can see on the following video... they sometimes carry on attacking themselves to death, even when they're all directly around me, and there are about 10 of them. Sometimes one or two run, sometimes none.

Yeah... I know, but if I don't constantly spam Protective Spirit and Mystic Regeneration, I end up letting them go off accidentally. And since I had both of them, I might as well spam them pointlessly :P

I can clear all of the hydras in 20 minutes (hard mode) using a 55 mo/w.
The skills:
[skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Mending[/skill][skill]Balthazar's Spirit[/skill][skill]Blessed Aura[/skill][skill]Healing Breeze[/skill][skill]Balanced Stance[/skill][skill]Shield Of Judgment[/skill][skill]Symbol Of Wrath[/skill]
You can lure about 5-7 at a time. The key is to quickly cast SOJ and Symbol (while under the stance).
By the time the hydras decide to fall back, they are already dead. 1 round of SOJ should be enough to kill them all.
If there are any survivors, finish them off using the Symobol which sould be recharged again.

Check out the thread that mentions the theory behind loot scaling.
If you kill enemy one by one, you generally find you get MORE drops than if you kill them all at once with SoJ. You sacrifice speed of kill for more cash per run. Overall, its more profitable killing them 1 by 1.
Dont believe me? Give it a try
Anyway Dope...as always a great build ^^

So, I should ge better drops using a 55/IW mesmer than doing it other ways? hmmm, maybe it would be worth it in other areas...
